In the FReSMe project (H2020 EU), starting from CO2 captured by the steel industry, it has been possible to produce methanol, using it as fuel for ship transportation.
Politecnico di Milano was highly involved in the FReSMe project: in fact, in addition to the leading Department of Energy, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering also took part in the project, coordinated by the scientific responsible Lucia Rigamonti. DICA dealt with the analysis of environmental sustainability, carried out by Life Cycle Assessment methodology of the developed technology.
