Uncertainty and Decision-making: Philosophical instruments at the service of Engineering
28 September 2023 @ 12:30 - 13:30
A seminar entitled: “Uncertainty and Decision-making: Philosophical instruments at the service of Engineering” will be held by Malvina Ongaro (Politecnico di Milano – DICA) on Thursday 28 September from 12.30 to 13.30 in Aula Fassò (Building 4A – p.za Leonardo da Vinci, 32 – Milan).
The event will also be broadcast online on WebEx.
Abstract
Uncertainty is a central concept in everyday life and in most academic disciplines. In Engineering, virtually any modelling or planning has to face uncertainty of different types and varying degrees of severity. How do we make choices under all this uncertainty, and how should we make them? Analyses coming from theoretical research on the concept of uncertainty and on different approaches in decision-making may provide valuable tools for applied work in many areas of Engineering.
