PhDTalks | Assessment of hydraulic roughness due to arboreal vegetation

25 October 2022 @ 18:15 - 19:15

We are glad to announce that our next PhDTalks Seminar will be held on Tuesday 25th October in Room 3.1.4, from 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm CET

PhDTalks is a series of seminars and discussions between PhD students. The events are aimed at providing a place to network and get in contact with many of the projects developed in our department.

Speaker Verónica Herrera Gómez will talk about “Assessment of hydraulic roughness due to arboreal vegetation”

Abstract:

Although vegetation is essential for a healthy ecosystem, its uncontrolled expansion can eventually lead to critical issues for river management. When rivers overflow, the floodplain vegetation reduces the flow area, increasing hydraulic roughness, water levels, and flood risk.
In this talk, flow resistance due to arboreal vegetation will be discussed from an experimental study and a field application by using a two-dimensional model.

At the end of each event a small refreshment funded by the department will be available.

These events are self-organised by PhD students and speakers are chosen on a voluntary basis.

If you are interested in presenting during one of these events, please send an email to chiara.recalcati@polimi.it .
