PhDTalks | A Mixed-dimensional solver for the geoelectrical analysis of highly resistive liners in landfills
Febbraio 27 @ 17:15 - 18:30
Lo speaker Lorenzo Panzeri condurrà un seminario dal titolo “A Mixed-dimensional solver for the geoelectrical analysis of highly resistive liners in landfills”.
Abstract
The analysis of the condition of the liner beneath municipal waste landfills is of considerable importance to prevent the spread of pollutants into the underlying layers down to the groundwater zone. Being at depths of several tens of metres in an uncertain location, it is crucial to find an effective method for its identification.
Direct current (DC) methods, in particular ERT (Electric Resistivity Tomography), exploit the conductive and resistive properties of the materials, permitting the identification of both the location of the highly resistive HDPE (High density polyethylene) membrane and the possible diffusion area of the pollutant, which, due to its high salt content, is highly conductive. A new mixed-dimensional Finite volume numerical model is developing for solving the forward and inverse problems in DC resistivity surveys.
