Professor Alberto Guadagnini and professor Monica Riva of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, took part in a joint research with the Technical University of Berlin, addressing the issue of induced bank filtration, a process for the supply of drinking water to those populated areas near lakes and rivers but caratcerized by low access to groundwater.

The project, which has been recently published in the journal Water Resources Research, besides investigating bank filtration, aims at improving the prediction capabilities of models that describe the transport of microorganisms during filtration itself. Finally, it analyses how viruses and basteria can reach drinking water wells for evaluating the real effectiveness and use of filteation model for humas.
