A Bottom-Up approach to foster low carbon UHPC floors

28 June 2024 @ 11:45 - 13:00

On June 28th at 11:45 in Grandori room (Building 4, basement floor, Piazza Leonardo da Vinci 32) there will be a seminar titled “A Bottom-Up Approach to Foster Low Carbon UHPC Floors”, held by Prof. Luca Sorelli (Department of Civil Engineering, Laval University – Canada).

Abstract

Reducing carbon footprints in residential floors involves optimizing design and selecting eco-friendly materials. This presentation showcases Université Laval’s ongoing efforts to develop low-cement ultra-high-performance concrete with minimal embodied carbon, achieved by substituting cement with mineral fillers and develop efficient structural solutions. The research methodology encompasses microindentation studies, material property enhancements, and optimized floor designs. The results feature eco-UHPC ribbed precast floors and composite floors with timber, offering both reduced carbon footprints and lighter weight, thereby providing sustainability solutions for construction practices.
