700 years from the death of Dante Alighieri

25 March 2021 @ 08:00 - 28 March 2021 @ 17:00

Dante is the “Sommo Poeta” and the father of the Italian language and, like all literati and humanists, he is at the center of studies in the Human Sciences. Nevertheless, it is precisely the Sections and themes of DICA that should be maximally involved in Dante’s engineering studies, particularly on the Commedia. Waters, Structures and Infrastructures, Lands and Purifications, Measurements and Numbers characterize the whole path of Dante, first with Virgil (in Inferno and Purgatorio) and then with Beatrice (in Paradiso). As an example, the Geomatics of the Comedy studies the geographical distribution of the places and of the mentioned characters, makes a statistical analysis on the distribution of groups of characters, among circles, frames and skies, and builds and analyzes a special geodetic network, made with the places and characters of Dante’s path, with their references to places and times, connected to the cantos, the cantiche and the whole Comedy, to the ideas of history and world, to Dante’s world and to the Christian God of the European Middle Ages. The hybridization of the Sciences is the high road to Culture.

Here a more in-depth analysis entitled “The Geomatics of the Comedy” by Luigi Mussio, published on Bollettino della SIFET (Società Italiana di Topografia e Fotogrammetria – Sezione Scienza), anno 2021, n. 1
