ASI & DICA: LCZ-ODC project is underway, a new frontier for urban climate analysis

Launched in 2021, “Innovation for Downstream Preparation” (I4DP) is the ASI program which aims to promote the demonstrative development (through use cases and pilot projects) of innovative value-added services based on the use of telecommunications satellite systems (TLC), Navigation (NAV) and Earth Observation (OT), also combined in a synergistic way and, where and as necessary, integrated with non-space data and services. The aim is to prepare next generation downstream services and promote the full use of national and European space systems, operational or under development.

As part of the First Call for ideas, dedicated to the theme of “Sustainable Cities”, the LCZ-ODC project was launched with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI-DICA). The project aims at the “Identification of Local Climate Zones (LCZ) and analysis of their correlation with the air temperature in the Metropolitan City of Milan through the integration of geospatial data and hyperspectral images from the ASI PRISMA satellite mission in the Open Data Cube environment (ODC)”.
