Attilio Frangi

Department Director

Attilio Frangi is a full professor of Structural Engineering at Politecnico di Milano since 2015 and Director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering since 2023. He served as Vice Director from 2017 to 2022. From 2001 to 2013, Prof. Frangi was a Professeur Chargé de Cours at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. His research activities focus on computational methods for multi-physics problems and MEMS microstructures (with more than 150 publications), and he has been involved in numerous research projects funded by public and private entities.

Currently, he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Joint Research Centers MEMS and STEAM between Politecnico di Milano and ST-Microelectronics. He also serves on the editorial board of REMN-Revue Européenne de Mécanique numérique, CMES (Computer Modelling in Engineering & Science), and Actuators, and is a Micro- and Nanoelectromechanical Systems Review Editor for Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering.

Riccardo Barzaghi

Deputy Director

Deputy Director Riccardo Barzaghi has been full professor of Surveying and Mapping at Politecnico di Milano since 2003. His research activity is mainly focused on methods for estimating and approximating the Earth’s gravity field an on the analysis of crustal deformations in seismogenic areas by GNSS time series (more than 160 scientific publications). He managed several national and international research projects with public and private companies. He estimated the official Italian geoid and, at present, he is PI of a PRIN2020 project for establishing the Italian gravity reference system. He is fellow of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), Chair of the International Gravity Field Service, the IAG official service on the Earth’s gravity field, elected member of the IAG Executive Committee, Associate Editor of Heliyon, Journal of Geodetic Science and of the Bulletin of Geophysics and Oceanography.

Daniela Fagnani

Management Responsible

Daniela Fagnani has been Management Manager of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the Politecnico di Milano since 2013. Previously she worked in the General Affairs Department and in the Teaching Area of the same University as Head of Service for Training and Postgraduate Studies. Significant experience has been gained in Human Resources Management and in the conception, activation and verification of activities aimed at creating innovative processes and procedures for the development of the organizational structure.

She graduated in Political Science from the University of Milan and then perfected her training with a 2nd Level Master in “University and Research Management” at the Politecnico di Milano.
