The workshop is organized as part of the EWGIE 2020 programme. The European Working Group on Internal Erosion of Dams, Dikes and Levees, and their Foundations (EWGIE) connects experts and scientists, young engineers and researchers, to share knowledge and address emerging issues on soil internal erosion in water retaining earth works and in their foundations. The Group is linked to the ICOLD Technical Committee on Embankment Dams and it reaches more than 350 subscribers worldwide.

The EWGIE 2020 Programme is shaped as a series of online workshops, to maintain a link in the community while waiting for the 28th Annual Meeting postponed to 2021. The workshop organized by Politecnico di Milano and Università del Molise focuses on the internal erosion processes dealt with innovative numerical approaches.
